Just to set the tone, this was the inspiration for the blog title:
It’s been a fair while since I wrote my last blog. A long while actually. I’m not going to make any excuses for it, blogging just wasn’t high up on my to-do list for the 6 months or so. I had a pretty turbulent end of the year last year, changed jobs three times and things were mental to say the least!
But things are so much better. Order has been restored and I finally feel like I’ve got more of a handle back on life (at least for the time being). Woohoo.
So, why did I change jobs so many times?
Well, some say it’s brave, others say it was ridiculous and I don’t really say anything. I try to live my life by doing what feels right, what my gut tells me to do (and of course I like to think what makes sense). I mean, it doesn’t always work, which is why I changed jobs so much, but you gotta do what you’ve gotta do. If you heard my talk at SheSaysMCR, you’ll know that I’m trying to put myself first this year. I spent last year putting everyone but myself first, which is great and it’s in my nature to do. But it isn’t sustainable and it’s a real challenge for me but I want to try and think of myself a little bit every now and again.
To put it shortly: I’m being SELFISH.
For anyone who knows me, this is a pretty big deal. I never say no when people ask me for help and it’s a problem, a really big problem but I’m going to really try this year to start limiting what I do. I’m going to do what’s best for me and make sure that happiness is a the root of every decision I make (if you seen me do any talks recently, you’ve probably picked up that this is my mantra). I spoke to a good friend about this and she said “Why are you labeling yourself as selfish, isn’t it just normal?” And I guess it should be, but to me it’s not. I don’t want it to be seen as negative, different or outlandish but it’s just the way I see it for now at least.
What am I doing now you ask?
I’m running SpacePortX. For those of you who don’t know, it’s a tech co-working space for tech startups and entrepreneurs, with a community focus it’s also home to many of Manchester’s tech meetups. Come by and say hi and see what we do, it’s a great place to be and somewhere that I feel very happy and proud to be a part of.
Hopefully now that life is back in some sort of chaotic order, I’ll now be blogging again more regularly! Woohoo, fun times ahead.
I'll be back to tell you about some very fun adventures soon!
